Meet All the Parts of You with Care

You’ve done the work, gone to sessions, and tried the exercises, but some parts of yourself still feel stuck, conflicted, or heavy. Maybe you feel anxious one moment, shut down the next, and then critical of yourself when you can’t seem to get it right. IFS therapy at B-rooted helps you meet these inner parts with curiosity and care, instead of frustration or judgment.

Inside each of us are different parts. Some protect you by staying alert, some push you to avoid pain, and some criticize in an attempt to keep you safe. IFS helps you understand these parts, why they developed, and what they are trying to do for you. When you treat them with kindness, your body and mind start to feel safer, lighter, and more connected to yourself.

When You Might Benefit from IFS:

You feel pulled in different directions emotionally or mentally

You notice parts of yourself that judge, avoid, or get stuck in old habits

Trauma or childhood experiences still affect how you respond to yourself and others

You want to feel kinder and more patient with yourself

Your relationships feel tense, reactive, or out of sync

Even after therapy, some feelings or patterns still feel out of control

What IFS Feels Like

IFS therapy is about listening to your inner world and noticing the different parts of yourself in a safe, supported way. You might notice a part that worries constantly, a part that shuts down to protect you, or a part that criticizes you for not doing enough. Together, we explore what each part is trying to do for you and help them feel heard instead of ignored. You also reconnect with your core Self, the part of you that is calm, compassionate, and wise, which can guide and soothe all the other parts. Through this process, the tension and conflict inside start to ease, and you begin to feel steadier, lighter, and more at peace with yourself.

A Calmer Inner World

You notice the parts that trigger tension or anxiety and learn how to respond instead of reacting. Over time, your body and mind feel more settled.

Kindness Toward Yourself

Instead of criticizing yourself for feeling anxious, stuck, or overwhelmed, you start responding with understanding and patience.

Clarity About Your Patterns

You begin to see why certain thoughts, behaviors, or emotional reactions show up. This makes it easier to make choices that feel authentic and freeing.

Stronger, Healthier Connections

When you relate to yourself with care, you naturally relate to others with more presence, patience, and calm.

A Life That Feels Whole

IFS therapy helps you stop fighting against yourself and start living from a place of understanding and connection. You feel more grounded, present, and at home in your own skin.

Frequently Asked Questions

What makes IFS different than general therapy?

IFS therapy focuses on the idea that your mind is made up of different “parts”—each with its own role, emotions, and intentions.

Instead of trying to change or fix these parts, IFS helps you understand and build a relationship with them. This creates space for healing from within, rather than working only at the level of thoughts or behaviors.

What is IFS therapy best for?

IFS therapy can be especially helpful for:

  • Trauma and past experiences
  • Anxiety and overwhelm
  • Inner conflict or self-criticism
  • Relationship patterns
  • Emotional regulation

It’s particularly effective for people who feel “stuck” or notice different parts of themselves pulling in opposite directions.

What are the negatives of IFS therapy?

Some people find IFS unfamiliar at first, especially the idea of working with “parts.”

It can take time to build awareness and trust in the process, and it may feel slower compared to more solution-focused approaches. Like any therapy, it also depends on the skill of the practitioner and whether the approach feels like a good fit for you.

Is IFS therapy covered by insurance?

Our registered counsellors are covered by a variety of extended health insurance plans. This means that, depending on your provider, you may be able to get full or partial reimbursement for your sessions.

It’s helpful to know that each counselling registration body is different, and insurance coverage can depend on which professional designation your counsellor holds (such as RCC, CCC, or RSW). Because every plan is unique, we recommend checking directly with your provider to confirm what’s included in your coverage.

Our intern counsellors, while highly skilled and closely supervised, are not yet covered by insurance — which is why they offer reduced-rate sessions to help keep support accessible.

For the most part, we do not offer direct billing. After your session, we’ll provide you with a receipt that you can submit to your insurance provider for reimbursement.

If you have any questions, we’re happy to walk you through it during your free 15-minute consultation, so you can feel confident and informed before booking.
