PTSD Counseling Across BC

Online, somatic, trauma-informed counseling for adults navigating PTSD, intrusive memories, hypervigilance, avoidance, or a nervous system that still feels on guard after trauma.

How PTSD Can Stay Active in the Nervous System

You can know you are safe now and still have your body react like the danger is happening all over again. A sound, a place, a certain tone of voice, or a memory that comes out of nowhere can leave you suddenly on edge, far away, or wanting to get out of there.

That can be exhausting, especially when part of you already understands what happened. At B-rooted, PTSD counseling is not about asking you to retell everything or pushing you into memories before you are ready. We slow things down and pay attention to what your nervous system is doing in the here and now.

Through online counseling across BC, we support adults in getting to know those protective responses with more care, so there can gradually be more room for steadiness, choice, and connection in everyday life.

When PTSD Keeps Your System on Guard

Memories, nightmares, or reminders that make the past feel suddenly close again

Feeling watchful or on edge, even in places where part of you knows you are safe

Startling easily or noticing your body react before you have time to make sense of why

Avoiding places, conversations, people, or situations that bring up too much at once

Trouble sleeping, concentrating, relaxing, or letting your guard down

Feeling numb, far away, or disconnected from yourself when things become overwhelming

Knowing what happened is in the past, while your body still responds as though it needs to protect you right now

What Becomes Possible

A lot of people come to B-rooted already understanding their trauma. You may have talked about what happened, read the books, listened to the podcasts, and gotten very good at explaining why your reactions make sense.

And then your body still responds before you can think your way through it.

That is where our approach to PTSD counseling is different. We work from the bottom up, bringing in somatic therapy to notice what happens in your body when your system senses danger, even when another part of you knows you are safe now.

We are not asking you to push through, retell everything, or prove that you are ready to “move on.” We slow the work down enough to notice what your nervous system is protecting, and build from there.

More Space Between the Trigger and the Reaction
A sound, tone of voice, place, memory, or body sensation can set things off before you even know what happened. We work on noticing those shifts earlier, so there can gradually be more room between the reminder and the automatic response.
A Body That Does Not Have to Stay on Watch All the Time
Hypervigilance can make even ordinary moments feel like something might happen next. Somatic work can help you get curious about that constant readiness and begin recognizing moments when your body does not need to stay quite so braced.
Less Pressure to Push Through Avoidance
Avoidance usually has a reason. Instead of treating it like something you should simply get over, we look at what feels too much, what your system may be protecting you from, and what might help the world feel a little less narrow over time.
Support for Both High Alert and Shutdown
PTSD does not always look panicked or visibly anxious. Sometimes it looks like numbness, fog, exhaustion, going quiet, or feeling far away from yourself. B-rooted’s work makes room for both activation and shutdown without assuming one response is more “valid” than the other.
More Choice Without Having to Control Every Response
The goal is not to become perfectly calm or never get triggered again. It is to know your system well enough that old survival responses are not making every decision for you.

Frequently Asked Questions

How is PTSD counseling different from general trauma counseling?

PTSD counseling focuses more specifically on patterns like intrusive memories, hypervigilance, avoidance, nightmares, and shutdown. For broader trauma and nervous system support, you can also explore trauma and nervous system healing across BC.

Do I have to talk about everything that happened?
No. At B-rooted, we do not believe healing requires you to tell every detail or push into a memory before your system is ready. We can work with what is happening in the present, including body sensations, protective responses, and the ways the past may still be showing up in everyday life.
What if my PTSD looks more like numbness than panic?
That can happen. PTSD does not always look like obvious anxiety or high alert. Some people go quiet, feel foggy or far away, lose energy, or disconnect when something feels like too much. We make room for those shutdown responses too, rather than assuming you should be visibly distressed for your experience to count.
How does online PTSD counseling work across BC?
B-rooted offers online PTSD counseling across British Columbia. Sessions can still include conversation, somatic awareness, grounding, and noticing what your nervous system is doing in real time, all from your own space. The pace is shaped around what feels manageable rather than asking you to push through for the sake of making progress.
