Mindfulness-Based Therapy

Virtual & In-Person Somatic, Trauma-Informed Counselling in Comox Valley, BC

Learn to Be Present Without Pressure

You’ve tried therapy, workbooks, and exercises, but some days it still feels like your mind is running ahead of you. Maybe you get stuck in worry, replay old conversations, or feel tense even when nothing is “wrong.” Mindfulness-based therapy at B-rooted helps you slow down, notice what is happening in your body and mind, and respond to life with clarity instead of getting swept away by it.

This is therapy for people who are ready to stop pushing, managing, or fixing everything, and instead want to feel steady, grounded, and more at ease in their own skin.

When Life Feels Overwhelming:

You feel anxious, restless, or like your mind won’t stop racing

You struggle to stay present even during meaningful moments

You notice tension, tightness, or discomfort that never seems to go away

You replay the past or worry about the future constantly

You feel emotionally stuck or disconnected from yourself

Even after therapy, it’s hard to feel calm, grounded, or in control

What Mindfulness Therapy Feels Like

Mindfulness-based therapy helps you feel more steady, present, and at ease in your daily life. Over time, you may notice that your thoughts feel less consuming, your emotions feel more manageable, and your body feels less tense and reactive. You become better able to pause before reacting, respond with more clarity, and stay connected to yourself even during stress. Moments of calm become more accessible. Rather than feeling pulled around by your mind or nervous system, you begin to feel more grounded, resilient, and able to be with your life as it is.

Greater Calm and Clarity

You notice tension, stress, or racing thoughts early and learn how to respond instead of being pulled under by them.

More Emotional Balance

You learn to observe your emotions without judgment, which helps reduce overwhelm and prevents old patterns from taking over.

Connection to Yourself

You feel more present in your body, your thoughts, and your choices. Life begins to feel more manageable and meaningful.

Better Relationships

When you are calmer and more grounded in yourself, it becomes easier to relate to others with patience, presence, and understanding.

A Life That Feels Lived Instead of Managed

Mindfulness-based therapy helps you step out of autopilot and into your own experience. You learn to notice, pause, and respond with awareness, creating a sense of calm, control, and presence that lasts beyond the session.

Frequently Asked Questions

What does a mindfulness therapist do?

A mindfulness therapist helps you build awareness of your thoughts, emotions, and body in the present moment—without judgment.

Instead of trying to change or fix your experience right away, mindfulness therapy supports you in noticing what’s happening internally, creating space between you and your reactions. Over time, this can help reduce stress, improve emotional regulation, and increase a sense of calm and clarity.

What is the 3-3-3 rule in mindfulness?

The 3-3-3 rule is a simple grounding technique used to bring your attention back to the present moment.

It typically involves:

  • Naming 3 things you can see
  • Noticing 3 things you can hear
  • Moving or becoming aware of 3 parts of your body

This exercise can help interrupt anxious thoughts and reconnect you to your surroundings.

What are the 5 R's of mindfulness?

The 5 R’s of mindfulness are a framework for working with thoughts and emotions more intentionally:

  • Recognize what’s happening
  • Allow the experience to be there
  • Investigate with curiosity (what do I notice?)
  • Non-identify (remembering this isn’t all of who you are)
  • Respond with awareness rather than reacting automatically

This process helps create more space and choice in how you respond.

Is mindfulness therapy covered by insurance?

Our registered counsellors are covered by a variety of extended health insurance plans. This means that, depending on your provider, you may be able to get full or partial reimbursement for your sessions.

It’s helpful to know that each counselling registration body is different, and insurance coverage can depend on which professional designation your counsellor holds (such as RCC, CCC, or RSW). Because every plan is unique, we recommend checking directly with your provider to confirm what’s included in your coverage.

Our intern counsellors, while highly skilled and closely supervised, are not yet covered by insurance — which is why they offer reduced-rate sessions to help keep support accessible.

For the most part, we do not offer direct billing. After your session, we’ll provide you with a receipt that you can submit to your insurance provider for reimbursement.

If you have any questions, we’re happy to walk you through it during your free 15-minute consultation, so you can feel confident and informed before booking.
